Madame Louise Bodot lives in a little French town. Her son, who studies reptiles in Africa, sends her an unexpected birthday present: a large green snake! Madame Bodot is a smart lady, so the first thing she does is go to the zoo to make sure it is not a poisonous snake. It is not! It is a boa constrictor, so she names him Crictor. She welcomes him, buys some palm trees and a nice long bed to make him feel at home, takes him for walks, knits him a sweater to wear when it’s cold, and even takes him to work with her. She is a teacher. Crictor is one smart boa constrictor! He quickly learns his letters and his numbers, and he loves playing with the children.
One day, Madame hears about some thefts in the town. That same night, the robber breaks into her home! Brave and loyal Crictor comes to the rescue, and for catching the crook, the town awards him a nice medal! And builds him a statue! And names a park after him! What a happy book!
