My children loved this book, and so do my grandchildren – but I love it even more, so there!  “Little fur family, warm as toast, smaller than most, in little fur coats and they lived in a warm wooden tree.”

So it begins.  It’s basically just a day in the life of this happy little fur family (they look like bears, but not quite) of three.  The dad goes to work, the mom gives her little fur son a bath and then he goes out to play “in the wild wood where they lived.”

The little fur boy has gentle adventures, starting with a sneeze, that wakes up his fur grandpa, who comes out to say “Bless you.”  Then the little fur child goes to the river and watches the fish, and even catches one!  He throws it back.  Then he catches a little ladybug, and looks at it, and lets it fly away.  And (this is so fun to read aloud!): “Then he caught a little tiny, tiny fur animal, the littlest fur animal in the world.  It had warm silky fur and even a little fur nose.  So he kissed it right on its little fur nose and put it gently back in the grass and the little tiny tiny fur animal ran down a hole into the ground.”  My toddlers, and I imagine yours, too, who have so much love to give, get very excited at the thought of finding this tiny, tiny creature and giving it a kiss on its little nose!

But then the sun goes down beyond the river – and it gets a little spooky (not very!) outside:  “The sky grew wild and red and the little fur child turned around and ran for home.  And just as the darkness got very dark he bumped into his big fur mother” who was out watching for him “and she took her little fur child home in her arms and gave him his supper.”  And then Daddy is home, and it is bedtime, “and they tucked him in bed all soft and all warm and they held his paw and they sang him a song.”  There is a little song here, and I just made up a melody for it.  You can, too!

This book is available new and used, hardcover, paperback, and as a board book, on Amazon.  It is also available on eBay and Abebooks.
