Reminder:  Nana’s Books are rated G. Anyone could read them, or listen to them being read aloud.

This book is a hoot!  My kids loved it, and now my grandchildren love having it read to them.  The stories, as the name suggests, are short.  They’re also addictive, like chips or popcorn – it’s hard to stop at one!  The illustrations are sweet and light-hearted.

Some of the stories are more familiar, like “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” “Rumplestiltskin,” “Paul Bunyan,” and “The Lion and the Mouse,” and some of them aren’t.  One of my favorites is “The Big Family in the Little House:”

“Once there was a poor man who had many troubles. So he went to a wise man in the town and begged for help.  “My wife, my father, my six children, and I all live crowded together in a tiny little house.  We trip and bump into each other all day, have little room to sleep, and no privacy.  What shall I do?”  The wise man considered a moment, and then said, ‘How many animals do you have in your barn?”

“A cow, a goat, a pig, and some chickens,” the man answered.  “Good. Go home and take all of the animals into the house with you,” the wise man said.  What would happen next?  Was this man really that wise after all?

Then there’s “The Baker’s Daughter.”  Actually, the baker has two daughters: one is kind, generous, and pleasant, and the other is selfish, greedy, and cross.  A fairy in disguise gives them both an opportunity to do a good deed, but only one chooses to be generous.  What happens to the other?  Here’s a hint:  Baaaaaa!

This book is available in hardcover and paperback on Amazon and eBay, and in paperback on Abebooks.
